Buy Local RI Logo Design Competition

Buy Local RI is a new statewide initiative whose goal is to establish a statewide awareness campaign and organization that will support independent Rhode Island businesses and organizations. Buy Local RI is hosting a logo design competition for the first phase of their statewide marketing efforts.

Who should submit a logo design?

  • Anyone who is a Rhode Island resident or employed in Rhode Island is invited to submit up to three pro bono logos for consideration.

What does the winner receive?

  • The winning design will get statewide exposure and appear on all Buy Local RI marketing materials and the website.

Submission details and deadline (February 16, 10:00 a.m.)

  • Submissions must be printed and delivered via mail, or hand delivery, by 10:00 a.m. Feb 16th. Mail submission to: Matt Auten, Office of Lt. Governor, State House Room 116, 82 Smith St. Providence, RI 02903.
  • Specs: Logos must be printed in 3 formats: Large color not to exceed 3 inches high or wide, small color not to exceed 1 inch high or wide, small black and white not to exceed 1 inch high or wide. Logos must be printed on white background. No animated or flash graphics. The logo must be the original work of the submitter. Please write your name, phone number and email on the back of each logo.

Target audience

  • The logo must have statewide appeal to consumers, businesses and visitors.
  • The logo must be applicable to an umbrella of Buy Local RI members including retail stores, banks, business service companies, wholesalers, artists, etc.

Visual Guidelines

  • Logo should create instant and strong visual impact and “call to action” to do your part. Logo must include the name “Buy Local RI.” No other words may be used.
  • Desired take-away: designs should inspire a sense of state pride, independence, building community, Rhode Island quality.
  • Logo may leverage existing state icons such as the shape of the state, wave, Rhode Island red rooster, etc. (optional)

How will logo design decisions be made?

  • The Buy Local RI Communications Committee will review and narrow the field of submitted logo designs. Finalists will be contacted and may be asked to respond to committee comments and questions shortly following February 16th.
  • The Buy Local RI Workgroup will select the winning logo that best fits the mission of this new initiative by March 1st.
